125 gallon aga reef ready tank
Description: One of my goals in this hobby is to show that a beautiful reef can be maintained without a huge amount of sophisticated equipment and expense. I am somewhat technologically challenged which is reflected in the system design. The main display drains into a 30 gallon sump. One of the outflows drains directly into a ASM G-3 skimmer fitted with the recirculation and gate valve modifications. The other outflow drains into a filter sock. Water then spills through a media tray in which I run carbon and Boyds Chemi-pure. Water is returned via a Mag-12 pump.
Lighting is currently provided by two 400 watt Reefluk 12k SE bulbs situated in "spider" reflectors mounted in the canopy about 13 inches above the water surface. Lights are driven by a dual PFO M-58 ballast. No supplemental lighting is provided. Lunar LED lights are mounted on the canopy for night viewing.
Cooling is accomplished by two 4" radio shack computer fans, each mounted directly behind the halide bulbs in the canopy and blow through the canopy. I also have a fan that clamps onto the sump and blows across the top of the sump creating evaporative cooling. Heating is accomplished with a 300 watt Ebo-Jagger glass heater situated in the sump.
Kalkwasser is added every night via a two gallon water dispenser to which I attached an intravenous drip line with an attached thumbwheel to control drip rate. Calcium is supplemented with C-Balance two part additive. Thats all there is: no calcium reactors, ionizers, top-off pumps, controllers etc.
