Current Tanks:
220 mixed reef My 220 reef
Size in Gallons: 220
Description:
Tank is a AGA 220 gallon with 3 holes drilled in the bottom for returns. I made an acrylic overflow which I plumbed "stockman" style drains to. I have over 325lbs. of live rock and several species of hard and soft corals. Over the years I have learned that if you do it, do it right. Don't spare the equipment buy the best you can afford!. I am currently using the following equipment to maintain my reef. I have a custom made sump, 48"x22"x16", 22"x20" of which is used as a refugium to grow macroalgea (for nutrient export). Skimming is done with a Reef Concepts Aerofoamer 830 driven by a Pan World 200ps pump. Lighting is provided my 3-400W metal halide lamps driven my PFO HQI ballasts. I am currently using a 20,000k lamp between 2 10,000k lamps, though I am considering a switch to either all 14,000k or 20,000k lamps. (I prefer the bluer spectrum as opposed to white or Yellow.) In tank circulation is provided by 2- Seio 2600s,2-Seio 1500s,and a Tunze 6060, combined with the 1200gph return (GenX Mak4) I have from my sump I have almost 10,000gph of circulation. Heating is done with 2 300W Ebo-jaber submersible heaters and cooling is done with 4"Ice cap fans in the canopy and a chiller. Temps. run in the winter 78 degrees and in the summer 82 degrees. Evaporation is about 4 gallons of water a day which is replaced via a auto topoff system hooked up to a 75GPD RO/DI. Calcium and Alk. levels are kept by a Geo 618 reactor. I keep calcium at 420ppm and Alk. at 8.0dKh.
